Charlotte, N.C.- The Charlotte 49ers Track and Field program hosts the 17th annual 49er Classic in the confines of the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center. The 2014 49er Classic is the largest in the history of the event with 46 teams and 1,300 runners on both sides.
“It’s a great deal of work to host the meet but our athletes love it and I feel like we must be doing a good job because the meet continues to be very large with many teams returning year after year,” said Coach Robert Olesen
“It’s always been an open meet on the first weekend of the outdoor season and geared for teams and athletes to have a lot of opportunity to compete. With the meet growing so large this year we have to be creative to keep up this theme without overwhelming our capacity but in the end I’m sure the meet will be a success and hopefully everyone leaves content that they were able to do their best.”
The 49er Classic will kick-off on Thursday, March 20, at 11 am with the Heptahlon followed by the Decathlon. Both events will take place on Thursday and go into Friday morning.
The three day meet will see the majority of the action on Friday and Saturday with running events starting at 1 pm on Friday and moving into the night. Field events will start on Friday midday with the women's hammer throw at 11 am.
The prelims for short sprint events will begin at 1 pm on Friday with the finals for those events taking place on Saturday.
Live results will be available through flashresults.com as well as results posted near the press box at the event. Admission for the event is free. Concessions will be open to the public.
Complete list and final schedule will be released when finalized.
