Members of the Charlotte 49ers track & field team will head to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech Last Chance Qualifier this weekend. Field events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with the women's high jump and the unseeded section of the men's pole vault. Running events begin at 11:10 a.m. with the men's 5000 meters.

"The meet at Virginia Tech this weekend is for a few athletes that have a shot at making the cut into the national championship and for a few to put some finishing touches on their indoor season," director of track and field Bob Olesen explained. "The competition will be made up mostly of other schools' athletes that are likewise highly motivated to make the NCAA cut so it should be a good environment. We've traditionally had some very strong performances at this meet with athletes focusing more on performance times, distances and heights rather than points and in less events than they may have had to contest at the conference championship."

Charlotte was off last week after competing in the 2012 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships the previous weekend in Rhode Island. The Niners women took home the conference championship for the sixth time in seven years, while the men finished second. Fourteen Charlotte student-athletes captured individual conference titles.
