CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Several members of the Charlotte men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete in three meets, spread out between two states in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C.
The Niners will compete at the Wolfpack Last Chance Meet, hosted by N.C. State University on Friday, May 10. A few student-athletes will compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational on May 10-11. A select group of 49ers will complete the weekend by participating at the Aggie Last Chance Meet on Sunday, May 12 hosted by N.C. A&T State University.
On Friday at the Wolfpack Last Chance Meet, Taylor Carcella, Tianna McHenry, Rachel Miller, Nicole Morgan, and Maraya Slatter will present Charlotte in the 800m. On the men’s side, Michael Colven, Sean Kluttz, Christian Norbye, Marcus Rinehardt, Nicholas Rotz, Michael Tamayo, and Carl Walton will compete in the 800m.
Isaac McReynolds will take part in the 110m hurdles.
In the field events, Jake Deaton and Katrina Wright will compete in the men’s and women’s discus. Toby Jo Klauenberg will represent the 49ers in the shot put. In the hammer throw, John Celona and Kenneth Pressley will compete and Daniel Freeman is slated to participate in the javelin throw.
The following athletes will compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational: Anthony Bynum (200m), Kevin Calhoun (pole vault), Anthony Campbell (triple jump), Brian Hamilton (400m), Trey McRae (high jump), LeRoy Rouse (100m and 200m), Khyran Shank (200m), Elias Still (long jump), Chris Tate (400m), Robert Wilson (pole vault), Briauna Jones (long and triple jump), T'Sheila Mungo (200m), and Jaleah Wilder (400m).
Scheduled to compete at the N.C. A&T Last Chance meet on Sunday are: Osvaldo Hernandez (javelin throw), Jamil Muhammed-Ray (100m & 200m), John Osborne (100m & 200m), Desmond Stearns (long and triple jump), Will Thomas (high, long, and triple jump), Alvonna Blakney (100 hurdles), Jana Eatman (pole vault), Sarah Fell (pole vault), Lauren Gulley (high jump), Jasmine Patterson (pole vault), and Kacie Sledge (high jump).
The last day for running an eligible qualifying time or distance is Sunday, May 12. The student-athletes that have posted the best times this season that rank in the top 48 of their respective event(s) and declare to compete in them qualify for the two NCAA regional championship meets (East and West). The list of student-athletes, by event, who have been accepted to compete in each preliminary championships competition will be announced on Thursday, May 16, by 1 p.m. ET
