HOUSTON, TEXAS- Ten Charlotte runners move on to the event finals in the last day of the 2014 Conference USA Outdoor Championships on Sunday, May 18. Taylor Carcella posts the top time in the 800m prelims with sprinters Anthony Bynum and Joann Blakney qualifying for 100m and 200m dash.
Anthony Bynum and Joann Blakney qualify for the 100m and 200m dash finals with top five performances during the preliminaries. Bynum posted a fifth place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 10.50. A second place finish in the 200m dash sends Bynum into the 200m finals with a time of 21.00. Blakney posted the second fastest time in the women's 100m dash with a personal best time of 11.52. J. Blakney finished fourth in the 200m dash prelims with a time of 24.02.
T'Shelia Mungo moves on to the finals in the 400m running the event in 54.36 for a fifth place finish. Chris Tate qualified in the sixth position in the men's 400m dash with a time of 47.93.
Alvonna Blakney placed sixth the women's 100m hurdles prelims with a time of 13.72. A. Blakney will compete in the finals tomorrow.
Khyran Shank missed out of the 200m finals posting a tenth place finish and a time of 21.24. Shank also finished 12th in the 100m dash with a time of 10.56. Cordell Livingston missed out of the 110m hurdles finals with a ninth place finish in the event with a time of 14.38. Livingston qualified in the 400m hurdles finishing eighth in the event with a 52.47.
Taylor Carcella took the top spot in the women's 800m heading into the finals tomorrow with a time of 2:10.34. Rachel Miller moves on to the finals in the event finishing in eighth. Michael Tamayo moves on to the finals in the men's 800m posting a time of 1:52.58.
Kevin Calhoun picked up four points for the men's squad in the pole vault event finishing fifth clearing 16-4 (4.98m). Kerrick Williams finished eighth in the men's discus throw with a heave of 159-08 (48.67m).
Conference USA Outdoor Championships wrap things up tomorrow with the final day. Running events start with the 4 x 100m relays at 4:30pm (central) with the first event starting at 2:30pm with the men's triple jump.
