|Niners T&F Place Third at ECU Invitational|
Greenville, N.C.- Charlotte 49ers Track and Field teams placed third in the East Carolina Invitational over the weekend. South Carolina took the overall spot scoring 216 points on the women's side and edging East Carolina by 2.5 points on the men's.
The Niner men's squad finished with 164 points while the women's team grabbed 140.
In the 100 meter dash, Joann Blakney grabbed seven points posting the second fastest time of 11.72. Anthony Bynum and John Osborne posted scores for the men in the event. Bynum (10.46) grabbed seven points finishing in second, while Osborne (10.64) posted a fourth place finish good for five points.
T'Sheila Mungo and Marissa Pinckney picked up a total of five points for the Niners in the women's 200 meter dash. Mungo placed sixth with Pinckney in eighth with time of 24.40 and 24.66 respectively. The duo of Bynum and Osborne picked up 11 more points for the squad placing in second and fifth in the event respectively. Bynum ran a 20.90 with Osborne running a 21.23. Chris Tate finished in sixth running a 21.35 but did not receive a score.
In the women's 400m dash, Mungo grabbed the top spot in the event with a 53.41 performance. Pinckney placed seventh in the event. On the men's side, Chris Tate, Phillip Bryant and Brian Hamilton placed in the top eight in the men's 400m. Tate ran a 47.52 for a second place finish, Bryant placed fifth with a time of 48.57 and Hamilton finished in seventh with a 49.15.
Carolina Casin-Silva finished in fourth in the women's 800m with a time of 2:17,90. Taylor Carcella, Rachel Miller and Lauren Pollard finished in the top six in the women's 1500m. Carcella picked up the top spot for the Niners finishing in second with a time of 4:39.32. Miller finished two spots behind Carcella in the fourth spot with a time of 4:40.37. Pollard finished the event in sixth with a time of 4:44.41.
Nicholas Rotz, Ben Sterett, Getisso Dentamo, Marcus Rinehardt, Michael Tamayo and Zach Greth finished fourth through ninth consecutively in the men's 1500m. Rotz picked up a fourth place finish running the event in 4:00.57 with Sterrett right behind him with a time of 4:01.28. Dentamo (4:02.86), Rinehardt (4:03.22), Tamayo (4:07.66), and Greth (4:08.17) rounded out the top ten.
Cordell Livingston grabbed a top five spot placing fifth in the 110m hurdles. Livingston completed the event in 14.92. Livingston also grabbed a third place finish in the 400m hurdles with a performance of 52.97.
The women's 4x400m relay team placed second with a time of 3:44.53. Brittany Moss, Mungo, Lauren Gulley and Pinckney competed for the Niners.
In the field events, Lauren Gulley finished in third in the women's high jump. Gulley cleared 1.65m (5' 5). Trey McRae placed in second the men's high jump clearing 2.17m (7' 1.5). Kevin Calhoun grabbed a fourth place finish in the men's pole vault with a vault of 4.75m (15' 7).
Charlotte returns home to host the Charlotte Invitational in a two day meet Friday and Saturday April 18-19.
