Niners Wrap up at Raleigh Relays

Raleigh, N.C.- Kicking off the 2014 outdoor season last week hosting the 49er Classic, the Charlotte Track and Field program competed in the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. over the weekend.

Joann Blakney qulaified for the finals in the women's 100m dash with a top five finish with a time of 11.70.  Blakney was edged in the finals by .01 after posting an 11.70 for second place.  Anthony Bynum missed out on a top ten finish in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.73 and finishing in 12th out of 121 runners.

T'Sheila Mungo placed fourth overall in the women's 400m dash finals on Friday afternoon grabbing a top five performance completing the event in 54.37.  Mungo finished fourth out of 175 competitiors in the event.  Chris Tate placed eighth on the men's side with a time of 47.89.  Tate finished in the top ten out of 180 competitiors.

Lauren Gulley finished tied for third in the women's high jump clearing 1.65m.  Briauna Jones finished seventh in the women's long jump invitational with a leap of 5.88m.  Dejah Hayes picked up an eighth place finish in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.63m.

In the men's high jump invitational, Trey McRae finished tied for sixth in the event clearing 2.0m

Scott Oosthuysen finished in ninth clearing 4.30m in the men's pole vault. Kerrick Williams placed sixth overall in the men's discus with a mark of 53.01m.

The women's 4x100m relay team finished third with a performance of 46.05.  Sarah Justice, Joann Blakney, Alvonna Blakney and Briauna Jones competed in the relay.  The women's 4x200m relay squad took third as well.  The same four competed with the exception of T'Sheila Mungo in place of Jones.  The 4x200m team finished the relay in 1:37.60.

The men's 4x100m relay finished third in the relay event.  Daniel Greer, John Osborne, Anthony Bynum and LeRoy Rouse finished with a time of 40.79.

Morgan Richards, Taylor Carcella, Rachel Miller and Maraya Slatter competed for the Niners in the 4x1500m relay and grabbing a fourth place finish and a time of 19:13.39. The quartet of Carolina Casin-Silva, Kristen Stout, Ashleigh Handchen and Lauren Pollard finished in tenth in the relay.

Charlotte will split the squad as the team is scheduled to run in the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. and the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.
