Charlotte set to host A-10 Outdoor Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field teams look to defend their respective titles on May 4-5 at the 17th Annual Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The 2013 Championship will be held at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Leading the way for the 49ers is senior Jake Deaton and junior Khyran Shank. Deaton, who has been named the A-10 Performer of the Week twice this season, currently sits atop the Atlantic 10 Conference standings in both the Discus (56.70m) and the Shot Put (18.05m), while Shank paces the A-10 in both the 100-meters (10.32) and the 200-meters (21.11).

Freshman Anthony Bynum (10.41) and junior LeRoy Rouse (10.63) also hold the second and third spots in league standings in the 100-meters. Bynum is second in both the 200-meters (21.38) and 400-meters (47.29) in the A-10.

Issac McReynolds has a turned in a conference-leading time of 14.17 in the 110-meter hurdles. In the field events, Trey McRae has cleared 7' 0.25 in the high jump along with Coye Still’s leap of 23' 9 in the long jump to take the top spots. Rookie Anthony Campbell’s leap of 50' 4.75 is tied for first in the triple jump.

Also contending for the men's title will be last year's runner-up, Rhode Island, along with Butler, Duquesne, Fordham, La Salle, Massachusetts, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Saint Louis, Temple, VCU and Xavier.

The Charlotte women's team will also look to defend its title this weekend as they aim for their third consecutive A-10 championship and seventh in the last eight seasons. Charlotte is led by sophomore T'Sheila Mungo who currently ranks second in the A-10 this season in the 400-meters (53.26) and the 800-meters (2:10.19) and is third in the A-10 in the 200-meters (24.39). Maraya Slatter leads the league in the 800m with a time of 2:08.36.

Charlotte’s trio of Juanita Leto (13.77), Alvonna Blakney (13.88), and LeAnna Morrison (13.94) head the league’s 100-meter hurdles.

Katrina Wright is second in the conference with a toss of 163' 8 in the discus.  

Vying for the women's title along with Charlotte are Butler, Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Saint Louis, Temple, VCU and Xavier.
