Deaton and Blakney get another A-10 Weekly Honor
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Jake Deaton was named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for the second time this season. For the third consecutive week, Alvonna Blakney was selected as the Women’s Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league for meets competed Jan. 28 – Feb. 3

Deaton, a senior, received the honor after competition this past week at the JDL Hilton Garden Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Mooresville, N.C., native set a new school record in the shot put event with a toss of 59’2.75, which leads the conference by nearly three feet. Deaton was also named the Men’s Indoor Track and Field Performer on Jan. 14. 

Blakney, who is turning in an amazing rookie campaign, also competed at the JDL Hilton Garden Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Charlotte, N.C., native was second in the 60m hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.61 seconds. She also picked up weekly honors on Jan. 14 and Jan. 22. 

The Niners will compete at the Tiger Paw Invitational beginning on Friday, Feb. 8 hosted by Clemson University which will be their final meet before the Atlantic 10 Indoor Conference Championship in Newport, R.I. on Feb. 16-17.
