CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers track and field team will host its second home meet of the season, the Charlotte Invitational, at the Irwin Belk Track this Friday and Saturday. Action kicks off Friday afternoon with field events, beginning with the women's hammer at 3 p.m. Saturday will feature the track events, leading off with the women's 5,000m run at 10 a.m. Field events will continue at 11 a.m. Along with the 49ers, Elon, Methodist, UNC Wilmington, East Carolina and Savannah State will all be competing this weekend. The Charlotte Flights Track and Field Club will provide timing for the meet. Charlotte is coming off a strong weekend of competition at the Sea Ray Relays at the University of Tennessee. In Knoxville, senior Isaac McReynolds ran the fastest 110m hurdle time in school history (13.90), just over the allowable wind aid for a new school record. In addition, several other 49ers obtained new PRs. Kerrick Williams (176'8) set news bests in the discus and hammer (163'11), while Khyran Shank shattered his previous best in the 200m (21.15). On the women's side, Joann Blakney ran a 24.18 in the 200m, also performing well in the 100m (11.57) and running on the 4x100 and 4x400m relay squads. She was recognized as the Atlantic 10 Women's Performer of the Week for her efforts. Freshman Juanita Leto PR'd in the 100m hurdles (14.10) for an even stronger USATF Junior Championships qualifying time. In addition to the Sea Ray Relays, the Niners traveled to UNC Chapel Hill last weekend for the Kent Taylor-Joe Hilton Invitational and competed in the Johnson C. Smith Invitational in Charlotte.
