|Field Athletes Perform Well at Weems Baskin Invite|
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Trey McRae won the men's high jump at the Weems Baskin Invitational this weekend in Columbia, S.C., where several members of the Charlotte 49ers track and field team competed. Clearing a height of 6'8.75, the rookie set a new personal best that moved him into third all-time in school history in the event.
"The meet this weekend was very effective in providing the 'working' atmosphere we were looking for with the primarily field event and women's hurdles oriented squad that traveled," said Director of Track and Field Bob Olesen. "We worked on tinkering with event techniques to effect positive change on which to build as we enter the middle phase of our outdoor season and a number of athletes came out of the weekend with personal and season bests to show for it."
Other highlights included senior Isaac McReynolds, who finished second behind McRae in the event (6'6.75). Cordell Livingston took second in the triple jump (47'7.75) and fifth in the long jump (22'8.5).
Kerrick Williams was third in the discus throw, with a distance of 163'2, a new PR that retains his spot at third all-time in the Charlotte record books.
On the women's side, Juanita Leto (14.42) and Ashley Bethune (14.53) finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the 100m hurdles. Leto's performance moves her into tenth all-time. Cecily Young (1:02.86) finished sixth in the 400m intermediate hurdles.
Alexis Louder finished tied for seventh in the high jump, clearing 5'3 to move into a tie for ninth all-time. Briauna Jones (18'1) and Jessica Morgan (17'10.75) took fourth and fifth in the long jump, while Jones recorded a second place finish (39'9.25) in the triple jump.
