KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Charlotte junior midfielder Amanda Jones represented the Conference USA East Division championship squad with her selection to the All-National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire Central Region Second Team, it was announced Wednesday. Jones’ accolade from the organization is the first of her career.
The Mahwah, N.J., native put together a career campaign in 2013, leading the 49ers with 10 goals, 23 points, four game-winning goals, 57 shots and 31 shots on goal. Each statistic set a new career best and helped her earn All-Conference USA Second Team honors following the regular season and All-Conference USA Tournament Team plaudits after guiding Charlotte the league championships semifinals.
She started the year by earning Aug. 27 TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week accolades and then collected the Oct. 7 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week nod.
Jones was an integral part of the 49ers finishing their first season back in Conference USA with an 11-7-2 overall record, including a 5-3-2 league mark to clinch the division title and enter the tournament as the East Division No. 1 seed.
She joined sophomore defender Monica Trickett as the only two players to start all 20 matches this fall.
Jones also was one of four Niners to receive All-NCCSIA postseason honors, as she was selected to the statewide organization’s first team.
She becomes the first all-region selection for the Charlotte program since Sam Huecker and Megan Minnix were tabbed All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team in 2010. With the switch back to Conference USA this fall, Jones is the first honoree in program history to earn All-Central Team plaudits as previously the 49ers were recognized on All-Southeast (1995-2001; ’04-08); All-South (2002-03) and All-Mid-Atlantic (2009-12) squads.
