IRVING, Texas – Conference USA East Division champion Charlotte has placed three of its players on the postseason all-league squads, as announced Monday morning by the conference office. Representing the 49ers were Second Team selections Amanda Jones and Monica Trickett, along with All-Freshman honoree Nicole Anderson.
Jones received her second-straight all-conference nod and first from Conference USA after pacing the Niners with eight goals, 19 points, 51 shots and three game-winning scores through the regular season. She ranks among the conference leaders in each category.
Her career season was highlighted by being named to the Aug. 27 TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the week and as the Oct. 7 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week.
Trickett, who earned her first career all-conference plaudit, was appointed to a mid-season captain role following injuries to other players. She helped anchor the backline that posted eight shutouts and tallied a cumulative 1.06 goals-against average. Her lone assist on the season came during non-conference action, while she added three shots from her central defensive position.
Anderson made the most of her first full season as a collegian, playing as both a midfielder and defender this fall. She chipped in one assist and fired away 26 shots, ranking third on the squad, placing seven on goal. Her versatility helped Charlotte close the regular season with wins in three of its last four contests.
The 49ers enter this week’s Conference USA Championships as the No. 1 seed from the East Division. The Niners have a bye into Wednesday’s quarterfinal round, where they will meet the victor of Monday night’s opening-round match between East Division No. 5 Marshall and West Division No. 4 Rice.
Wednesday’s quarterfinal, at Rice’s Holloway Field, will start at approximately 8 p.m. EST and be the final game of the day. The tournament continues with semifinals Friday and the championship at 2 p.m. EST Sunday live on CBS Sports Network.
