The 49ers begin practice for the 2012 season in early August.
Charlotte 49ers women's soccer newcomers Caitlin Donovan and Katie Thomas played in last Tuesday's NCCA East-West All-Star game at UNC Greensboro. Donovan and Thomas played for the East Team. The game ended with a 1-1 tie. Donovan, a midfielder from Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina's Cardinal Gibbons High School, was named All-State, All-Conference, Conference Player of the Year, All-Region and Regional Player of the Year this past season. As a junior, she earned All-State, All-Conference and All-Region honors. She was a member of Cardinal Gibbons National Honor Society. Thomas, a forward from Apex High School in Apex, North Carolina, led the team in assists as a senior. As a junior, she led the team in goals. Donovan and Thomas are part of class of 11 newcomers for the 49ers that include Nikki Anderson, Rebecca Forcellini, Tori Fubara, Maddie Kiebel, Alex Meyers, Loren Reilley, Meagan Speck, Monica Trickett and Alex Weaver. The 49ers begin practice for the 2012 season the first full week in August. |
