CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charotte women’s soccer team will host La Salle and Fordham in a pair of home conference games this weekend at Transamerica Field. The Niners will face undefeated La Salle (13-0-1; 5-0-0 A10) on Friday night at 7 p.m., then play Fordham (8-6-2; 3-2-1 A10) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Sunday’s game is also Senior Day for the 49ers. Prior to the game, each of Charlotte’s six seniors (Oni Bernard, Katie Davies, Jonna Handra, Natalie LaVigne, Jenna McKeon and Macky Wingo) will be recognized for their contributions to the women’s soccer program.
Wingo leads the Niners with 14 points on five goals and four assists. Bernard is second with four goals and an assist for nine points, while Handra is third with eight points (3 goals, 2 assists). LaVigne and sophomore Alex Kubrick have split time in goal, and have combined for five shutouts on the season.
Friday’s game marks the fourth all-time meeting between Charlotte and La Salle, with the 49ers holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. Charlotte last faced the Explorers in the Semifinals of the 2010 Atlantic 10 Tournament, a match that the 49ers won, 3-1 on a hat trick from Macky Wingo. The last time the Niners played La Salle at home was back in 2008, a 6-0 Charlotte victory.
Sunday will mark the eighth all-time matchup against Fordham, with the Niners leading 5-1-1 in the series. The two teams last squared off in the 2009 Atlantic 10 Semifinals, which Charlotte hosted. The 49ers came out on top, 2-1 to advance to the Championship game.
Admission prices for this weekend’s games are $5 for adults and $2 for youth (17-and-under). Students are admitted free to all women's soccer games with a valid student ID.
