Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team hosts Massachusetts and Rhode Island in their Atlantic 10 home opening weekend at Transamerica Field, October 7-9. First, the 49ers play Massachusetts in their A-10 home opener, Friday, October 7 at 7 pm. Then, the 49ers play Rhode Island at home, Sunday, October 9 at 1 pm. Charlotte is 4-1-1 all-time in their Atlantic 10 home opener.
Before Friday's game with Massachusetts there will be a tailgate party in the end zone with hamburgers and hotdogs for the first 150 people through the gate.
Macky Wingo leads the 49ers with four goals. Wingo enters the weekend with 19 career goals and she needs one more goal to move into a tie for 10th place on the 49ers career goals scored list. Wingo also leads the team with three assists.
Friday's game will mark the sixth meeting between Charlotte and Massachusetts. Charlotte has won four of the five previous meetings. Charlotte defeated Massachusetts, 2-1, on the road in their last meeting, October 1, 2010. Charlotte defeated Massachusetts, 4-0, in their last meeting at Transamerica Field, October 4, 2009.
Sunday's game will mark the seventh meeting between Charlotte and Rhode Island. Charlotte has won four of the previous six meetings. Charlotte defeated Rhode Island, 1-0, on the road in their last meeting, October 3, 2010. Then, the 49ers defeated Rhode Island, 4-0, in their last meeting at Transamerica Field, October 2, 2009.
Admission to Friday's game against Massachusetts is $5 for adults and youth (17-and-under) are admitted free. Admission to Sunday's game with Rhode Island is $5 for adults and youth (17-and-under) are $2. All Charlotte 49ers are admitted free to women's soccer games with a valid student ID.
