CINCINNATI, OH - Macky Wingo scored her second straight game-winning goal as the Charlotte 49ers blanked Xavier, 1-0, for their seventh shutout for the season. "Good
win to keep our season alive," Charlotte coach John Cullen said. "We were
superb in the first half and played with good quality. We dropped off that
level a little in the second half. I am very proud of the team's effort
tonight." The 49ers finished the game with a 20-7 advantage in shots. Jonna Handra led the 49ers with five shots. Wingo and Carrie Dail added four shots apiece to the 49ers attack. Charlotte had numerous scoring chances but their shots were either wide, blocked by a Xavier defender or saved by Xavier's goalkeeper Katie Markesbery. In the first 12 minutes of the game, the 49ers had five shots and two corner kicks. Charlotte's Katie Davies took the 49ers first shot just a minute and a half into the game. Charlotte tallied 14 of their 20 shots in the first half. Charlotte's defense behind the play of goalkeeper Alex Kubrick recorded their seventh shutout of the season. Kubrick tallied her fifth shutout of the season and the ninth of her career. Charlotte concludes the regular-season on the road at Dayton, Sunday, October 30 at 1 pm. |
