Eric McCombs returns to the Charlotte sidelines as the program’s director of operations for his fifth season in 2014-15, the longest current tenure of any member of the staff. During each of his previous four seasons, the Niners have advanced to the postseason, including an appearance in the 2011 WNIT semifinals and the 2013 WNIT Sweet 16.
As director of operations, McCombs is responsible for uniforms, team travel, game scheduling, coordinating the duties of the managers and working camps, along with various other duties that help 49ers women’s basketball program run smoothly.
McCombs was a manager at Charlotte for two years before returning to his alma mater after spending the 2009-10 campaign as a graduate assistant on the Miami (Fla.) staff for former 49ers head coach Katie Meier.
While with the Hurricanes, who compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference, he helped plan and run practices, organized the mail-outs to recruits, traveled with the team, kept stats, helped run summer camps and performed regular managerial duties.
Miami reached the WNIT championship game in his lone season with the program.
While an undergraduate at Charlotte, McCombs served as a manager and a practice player from 2008-09. As senior manager, he was a part of the 49ers’ 2009 Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship team and NCAA Tournament appearance.
During his undergraduate career, he helped with mail-outs, traveled with the team and performed manager duties.
He graduated with a bachelor’s of science in business administration in May 2009.
McCombs later earned a master’s degree in education with a concentration in sports administration from Miami (Fla.) in May 2010.
