Charlotte, N.C.- The Charlotte 49ers track team makes its way to Blacksburg, Va. for the Virginia Tech Invitational for the first of four trips this season. The 49ers will run in the Rector Field House on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 17-18.
Coming off season best performances in the 60m and long jump events, Joann Blakney looks to continue up the Conference USA ranks and closer to competing in the NCAA Indoor Championships. Last season, Blakney finished third in the 60m event missing the top spot by .03 of a second.
T’Sheila Mungo sits atop the conference standings in the 400m with a time of 56.41. Mungo excelled at this meet last year as well taking home a first place finish in the 400m event with a time of 54.97. Mungo also finished second in the 500m event with a time of 1:11.03. Mungo’s performance at the Virginia Tech Invitational is the school record in the event.
LeRoy Rouse, Anthony Bynum and Khyran Shank look to continue the success in the 60m and 200m events. Rouse qualified last week for the finals and putting himself in the Top 10 all-time. Bynum and Shank look to shake off last week and compete in the finals this weekend.
Field events will begin on Friday at 5 pm and carry through Saturday. Running events will participate on Saturday afternoon at 5 pm with the women’s 60m prelims.
