Charlotte, N.C. - The 21st-ranked Charlotte 49ers (1-0-0) men’s soccer team plays ninth-ranked Coastal Carolina (1-1-0) at Transamerica Field, Friday, September 5 at 7 pm.
Charlotte enters Friday’s game fresh off a 2-1 season opening victory over Radford last Sunday. Brandt Bronico, who earned TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Team of the Week honors this week, scored the 49ers first goal of the season and then he assisted on Dominic Bonilla’s game-winning goal against Radford.
Coastal Carolina has already played two nationally-ranked teams on the road. Coastal Carolina defeated eighth-ranked Connnecticut, 3-2, on the road and then lost to second-ranked Maryland, 3-2, on the road last Monday. Bryce Follensbee leads Coastal Carolina in scoring with two goals.
Friday’s game will mark the tenth meeting between the two teams with Coastal Carolina leading the all-time series, 5-4-1. Coastal Carolina defeated Charlotte at Transamerica Field, 1-0, in their last meeting which came in the second round of last season’s NCAA Tournament, November 24, 2013. However, the 49ers have won the last three regular-season meetings including a 2-1 win at Coastal Carolina last season, September 6, 2013.
Admission to the game is $5 for adults and $2 for youth (17-and-under). All Charlotte 49ers students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
