The Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer team, who are ranked 22nd in the preseason Soccer America and 23rd in the preseason NSCAA/Continental Tire Coaches Poll, kick off the 2014 regular-season against Radford at home at Transamerica Field, Sunday, August 31 at 6 pm. The 49ers are 12-1-1 in their home opener since 2000.
Charlotte returns 15 letterwinners from last season’s Conference USA Tournament Champion and NCAA Tournament participant squad. The 49ers recorded a 12-6-3 record last season.
Kevin Langan, who is entering his third season as head coach, welcomes back stalwarts Kyle Parker, Luke Waechter, Brandt Bronico, David Mayer and Biko Bradnock-Brennan. Parker was a preseason All-Conference USA selection. Parker, who earned third-team All-Conference USA honors, shared the Conference USA Golden Boot Award last season. Waechter and Bronico earned Conference USA All-Freshman team honors.
Charlotte won both of their preseason games with a 7-0 win at UNC Asheville and a 2-0 win at Davidson. Charlotte defeated UNC Asheville, 7-0, on the road in their first exhibition game, August 20. Bronico and Parker each scored two goals. Bokar, Bonilla and newcomer Zhuvonte Wilson scored the 49ers other three goals. Barnhorst recorded two assists in the game. Bronico and Parker each scored a goal in the 49ers victory at Davidson, August 23. Goalkeepers Nick Hensley, Austin Pack and Justin Savinon helped the 49ers record back-to-back shutouts in their exhibition games.
Admission to the game is $5 for adults and $2 for youth (17-and-under). All Charlotte 49ers students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
