Owen Darby, who was a former standout on the 49ers men's soccer team, has returned to the 49ers as the Director of Soccer Operations.
"We are thrilled to welcome Owen back to Charlotte,” said Charlotte 49ers head coach Kevin Langan. “As a captain he was a standout performer during his stellar career. He displayed a phenomenal mindset and unrivaled competitive fire and I have no doubt that his personality and drive will once again be infectious to everyone around him."
Darby, who graduated from Charlotte in 2013 with a double major in History and Geography, saw action in 76 games in his four-year career with the 49ers. As a senior in 2012, he was team captain on a 49ers team which won 15 games and captured the A-10 regular-season title and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
During his career, he helped the 49ers capture two Atlantic 10 regular-season titles and advance to the NCAA Tournament three times including reaching the College Cup Championship game in 2011.
Darby is currently the Academy Director for F.C. Carolina Alliance.
