CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers men’s and women’s cross country programs have announced their 2014 schedule. Led by head track & field coach Robert Olesen and assistant cross country coach Ashley Vaughn, the 49ers will get action started on Friday, August 29 as they travel to Boone to participate in the Covered Bridge Open hosted by Appalachian State.
After running in the Furman Invitational in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday, September 13, the 49ers will host the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational at McAlpine Park in Charlotte on Friday, September 26. Charlotte will stay in town for their next meet, October 11, when they run in the Queens Royal Challenge hosted by Queens University at McAlpine Park.
Looking to get a sneak peak at the NCAA Championships course in Terre Haute, Ind., the 49ers will run in the NCAA Pre-National Meet on October 18 hosted by Indiana State University. After a two week layoff, the 49ers will return to action at the C-USA Championships hosted by North Texas on Saturday, November 1. The men will look to improve on their sixth place from a year ago, while the women will challenge to best their fifth place finish.
Finally, the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships will be hosted by the University of Louisville on November 14 while the NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships will be run on November 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Both the men’s and women’s programs bring back a number of experienced runners from a season ago. On the men’s side, the 49ers welcome back seniors Zach Greth and Ben Sterett along with juniors Michael Tamayo and Getisso Dentamo. On the women’s side, Charlotte returns seniors Taylor Carcella, Jen Molke and Kristen Stout along with juniors Morgan Richards and Carolina Casin-Silva.
