Charlotte, NC – The nationally-ranked and defending Conference USA Champion Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer team were picked second in the Conference USA preseason coaches’ poll. Junior forward Kyle Parker was named to the preseason All-Conference USA team.
New Mexico, who captured the 2013 Conference USA regular-season title and reached the College Cup, were picked to win the league. Charlotte is picked second followed by UAB, Old Dominion, who made the NCAA Tournament last season, South Carolina, Kentucky, FIU, Marshall and Florida Atlantic round out the preseason coaches’ poll.
In 2013, Charlotte won 12 games and captured the program’s second ever conference tournament title after winning the Conference USA Tournament title with a 1-0 victory over Tulsa in the title game at Transamerica Field. The 49ers were the number 13 seed in the NCAA Tournament, which marked the second time in school history that the 49ers earned a national seed.
Last season, Parker shared the Conference USA Golden Boot Award after finishing tied for the league lead with seven goals in C-USA play. He finished second in Conference USA and led the 49ers with 11 goals. Last season, he earned third-team All-Conference USA honors.
Parker and the rest of the Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer team travel to UNC Asheville for their first exhibition game, Wednesday, August 20. Charlotte opens the regular-season at Transamerica Field against Radford, Sunday, August 31.
