Charlotte, NC – The Charlotte 49ers, who have made the NCAA Tournament three straight years and four of the last five years, are ranked 23rd in the preseason NSCAA/Continental Tire Coaches Poll. The 49ers play seven teams that are ranked or received votes in the NSCAA preseason poll.
The 49ers begin practicing for the 2014 season on Tuesday, August 12.
Charlotte returns 15 letterwinners from last season’s Conference USA Tournament Champion and NCAA Tournament participant squad. The 49ers recorded a 12-6-3 record last season.
Kevin Langan, who is entering his third season as head coach, welcomes back stalwarts Kyle Parker, Luke Waechter, Brandt Bronico, David Mayer, Robby Thomas and Biko Bradnock-Brennan. Parker was a preseason All-Conference USA selection. Parker, who earned third-team All-Conference USA honors, shared the Conference USA Golden Boot Award last season. Waechter and Bronico earned Conference USA All-Freshman team honors.
Charlotte also returns mainstays Nick Barnhorst, Dominic Bonilla, Hans Honer and Monbo Bokar.
In non-conference play, the 49ers play 17th-ranked Coastal Carolina at Transamerica Field, September 5. The 49ers play 11th-ranked Wake Forest on the road, October 28. Charlotte plays William & Mary, who received votes in the poll, at Transamerica Field, September 30. The 49ers play Clemson, who also received votes in the poll, on the road, October 7.
The 49ers begin Conference USA play at Transamerica Field against fifth-ranked New Mexico, September 26. Charlotte plays 25th-ranked Old Dominion on the road, October 18. The 49ers play UAB, who received votes in the poll, at Transamerica Field, October 24.
Charlotte begins the 2014 season with an exhibition game on the road at UNC Asheville, August 20. The 49ers begin the regular-season at Transamerica Field against Radford, August 31.
