CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second-straight week, the Charlotte 49er baseball program sees its second player named to a summer league All-Star team in 2014. This time around, it’s infielder T.J. Nichting who has been named to the South squad representing the Hamilton Joes in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League (GLSCL). Nichting will play in the league’s mid-summer classic on Wednesday, July 16th at 7:00 p.m. in Xenia, Ohio.
Hamilton currently stands 17-15 just 2.5 games out of the top spot led by Nichting’s team-best .379 average. The rising sophomore currently stands tied for second in the league hitting at his .379 clip while he leads the GLSCL in games played (32), hits (50) and RBI (28).
In his rookie season with the Niners, Nichting hit .283 which tied for the team-lead en route to All-Freshman Team honors in Conference USA. Nichting led Charlotte in at-bats (198), hits (56), and doubles (13).
Based on his stats through 32 games with the Joes, Nichting will have the best batting average on the South unit and should be the Niners second All-Star starter in as many weeks. Des Roberts, playing in the Coastal Plains League, was named an All-Star starter last weekend.
