CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte 49ers men’s golf team will open up the 2014-2015 schedule up north in early September with a trip to Minnesota before hopes of finishes the year at the NCAA Championship in late May down in Tampa, Florida. The annual Irish Creek Collegiate held in Kannapolis at The Club at Irish Creek highlights the slate of five fall events with a minimum of seven in the spring.
“We’re excited to play another fantastic schedule against many of the best teams in the country during each and every event,” remarked Head Coach Ryan Cabbage. “This schedule will give our guys the opportunity to compete in many different areas, on a variety of layouts and course conditions.”
The Niners will open the season at Minnesota’s Gopher Invitational on September 7-8 last participating in the event as the season-opening tournament two years ago. Charlotte will do exactly what it did two years ago after their trip up north and that’s to play in North Carolina’s Tar Heel Invitational just four days later.
For the first time in six years, the Niners will head back to Toledo, Ohio September 22-23 to play in the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational at the Inverness Club. The final two events of the fall are familiar events for the Niners teeing off in the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate in Birmingham October 6-7 before wrapping up at the Rod Myers Intercollegiate hosted by Duke October 11-12.
After a little more than four-month hiatus, the Niners will begin the 2015 spring portion of their schedule at the Bayou City Collegiate in Humble, Texas just outside of Houston February 20-22.
Three of Charlotte’s final five regular season events take place within an hour of Charlotte starting with Davidson’s Invitational March 2-3 before a trip to TPC Myrtle Beach a week later for the General Hacker Invitational. After a familiar trip to Greensboro, Georgia for the Linger Longer Invitational March 21-22, the Niners will play their final two events close to home before the annual Conference USA Championships.
April starts with a trip down I-85 to Gastonia for the Tiger/Wildcat Invitational at the Gaston Country Club before the Niners host their annual Irish Creek Collegiate April 11-12. The C-USA Championships will take place April 26-28 at a location to be determined before NCAA Regional play slated for May 14-16 at one of six pre-determined locations. The National Championship will be up for grabs May 27-31 in Tampa, hosted by USF, at the Concession Golf Club.
“It’s pretty cool when a lot of the tournaments on your schedule are played on the same venue that host PGA Tour and Web.com Tour events,” continued Cabbage. “It should be a lot of fun.”
