T&F Has Five Eyeing NCAA National Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second-straight season for one ground and first-time in school history for another, the Charlotte 49ers will participate in the 2014 NCAA Track and Field National Championships in Eugene, Oregon beginning Wednesday afternoon. The Niners will have a 4x100m relay team and high jump athlete Trey McRae looking to bring a National Title back to Charlotte.

The 4x100m relay will be up first for Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon at 7:00 p.m. eastern, 4:00 p.m. local time on the west coast. Anthony Bynum, Khyran Shank, LeRoy Rouse and John Osborne will start in heat one, lane one on Wednesday going up against Texas-Arlington, Arkansas, South Carolina, Arizona State, Nebraska, Western Kentucky and Texas.

The relay field consists of 24 teams competing in three heats of eight. The top two team finishes in each heat will advance to the National Championship finals with the two other fastest times outside of those six. The quartet continues to trim the school-record qualifying for this weekend’s meet with a time of 39.70 seconds. Should the Niners qualify the final race, that is currently scheduled to take place on Saturday at approximately 5:00 p.m.

Trey McRae earned a trip to the National Championship meet after a personal-best high jump clearing 7’1.5 (2.17m) in Jacksonville, Florida nearly two weeks ago. McRae becomes just the second-ever male qualifier for the Niners in the high jump and first in 10 years. McRae will get his event going on Friday night at 6:20 p.m. going 13th among the 24 jumpers. All jumpers will start at a height of 2.05 meters (just over 6.7 feet high).

The ESPN Family of Networks will cover every day of the meet starting with Wednesday and Thursday action on ESPN3 starting at 6:55 p.m. each day, just before the Niners appear at 7:00 p.m. in the first of three 4x100m heats. Friday and Saturday coverage will be available on TV’s ESPNU starting at 7:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Live stats and live video will also be available online through
