CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte golf Head Coach Ryan Cabbage has announced the addition of Victor Wiggins to the 2014-15 roster as a transfer from Auburn. Wiggins, from nearby Gastonia, played in three events for the Tigers during his freshman campaign.
Wiggins, who played as an individual in all three tournaments, began his collegiate career with a consistent outing of 223 (74-74-75) at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in September. In February, Wiggins carded a three-round tournament total of 220 (72-76-72) to finish tied for second at the USA Individual in Mobile, Alabama.
Wiggins’ rookie campaign would come to a close with his best event of the year participating in Auburn’s Tiger Invitational. After opening with a round of 77, the freshman bounced back to post a personal-best round of 69 for the year. Wiggins added a 73 in the final round to finish tied for 17th with a 219.
In nine rounds, Wiggins averaged 73.56 strokes per round which would have been the third-best mark on the Niners in 2013-14.
Wiggins brings an impressive background of playing experience through the Amateur and Junior levels of golf. Wiggins qualified for the 2013 US Amateur after winning his sectional qualifying tournament in Rocky Mount with a tournament total of 136.
Wiggins transfers to Charlotte bring honors as a five-time NJGT Player of the Year, three-time Press Thorton Future Masters Age Group Champion, and two-time participant of the US Junior Amateur and PGA Junior Championships. Part of his success also includes holding the course record of 61 at the Clemson University Walker Course set back in 2011.
“We are excited to have Victor joining our program,” commented Cabbage. “He is a wonderful young man and a tremendous player. I expect that Victor will make an immediate, positive impact in our lineup. I look for him to have an outstanding career here at Charlotte.”
