CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte women’s soccer program, the host of the 2014 Conference USA Championships, have announced its full fall schedule as unveiled by sixth-year head coach John Cullen Wednesday. The 49ers will play host to seven regular-season matches at Transamerica Field, including five against league foes, before welcoming in conference competition for the week-long tournament in early November.
Charlotte, which won the 2013 C-USA East Division, begins the campaign with five-straight road contests. The Niners will also play two exhibition games, both away from home but in-state against Wake Forest (Aug. 12) and Gardner-Webb (Aug. 16).
The regular-season slate opens Aug. 22 in Greensboro against UNC Greensboro. After a week off, Charlotte will head towards the Atlantic Ocean for meetings with Coastal Carolina in Conway, South Carolina, and UNC Wilmington Aug. 29 and 31, respectively.
The September calendar starts with a trip to Lynchburg, Virginia, to face Liberty Sept. 4, while three days later, the season-opening away stretch concludes with a match at Clemson Sept. 7 in Clemson, South Carolina.
The 49ers will make their home debut Sept. 17 against local foe Winthrop before playing host to cross-county rival Davidson Sept. 21 to mark the end of the non-conference portion.
Charlotte then will begin its defense of the division crown in the Sunshine State, squaring off against Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Florida, and FIU in Miami, Sept. 26 and 28.
The home league opener will be Oct. 3 against Marshall before the Niners hit the road to face new conference opponent Western Kentucky in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Oct. 5.
Three-straight home matches, the longest stretch of the season, welcome the 49ers back in the middle of the month. The span begins Oct. 10 against Louisiana Tech and continues with meetings against Southern Miss (Oct. 12) and Old Dominion (Oct. 18).
Charlotte then travels to the Lone Star State for its final conference road swing of the year, taking on North Texas in Denton, Texas, Oct. 24 and Rice Oct. 26 in Houston.
A matchup with Middle Tennessee back at home Oct. 30 marks the conclusion of the regular-season action.
The 49ers will then welcome the top-eight seeds to the Queen City, Nov. 5-9, for the annual Conference USA Championships. It marks the seventh time in the program’s history it has played host to the league tournament and first since 2009. Charlotte reached the semifinals of last year’s event in Houston in its first season back in Conference USA.
