IRVING, Tex. – Charlotte second baseman T.J. Nichting has been named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team for 2014 announced by league officials on Tuesday afternoon. Nichting wrapped up his rookie season tied for the top spot with a .283 average in 51 games played starting in 48. Voting was done by a panel consisting of each head coach, each team’s media relations director and a media representative from each city.

The freshman led all Niners in several offensive categories including at-bats (198), hits (56), doubles (13), triples (tied at two) and total bases (76). Nichting also paved the way defensively with a .963 fielding percentage committing just seven errors in 184 chances to lead all four infielders. Nichting posted a team-best 17 multi-hit games in 2014 including three, three-hit outings with a pair of four-hit contests.

In his first taste of Conference USA play, the Hamilton, Ohio native hit a team-best .310 starting in all 29 league contests. The freshman once again led the way in at-bats (116), hits (36), doubles (10), and total bases (49). Nichting’s lone home run came in C-USA play at Middle Tennessee belting a game-tying grand slam in the top of the eighth inning with the Niners trailing 6-2.
