49ers Enters C-USA Tourney As Sixth Seed

The Charlotte 49ers men’s tennis team (12-6) is seeded sixth out of the 11-team field at this week’s Conference USA Championship, April 17-20 at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The 49ers play 11th-seed Florida Atlantic in the first round, Thursday, April 17 at 11 a.m. Eastern. If the 49ers win that match, they would play third-seed East Carolina in the Conference USA Championship Quarterfinals, Friday, April 18 at 11 am. The semifinals of the Tournament will be Saturday, April 19. The Conference USA Championship match is Sunday, April 20 at Noon. The winner of the Conference USA Championship earns the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Charlotte enters the Conference USA Championship after winning seven of their last 10 matches. Thursday’s match will mark the first-ever meeting between Charlotte and Florida Atlantic.

Jordi Massalle Ferrer, who has won four straight matches, leads the team with 20 singles victories. Forrest Edwards and Alex Calott are tied for second on the team with 19 wins apiece. Paul Cisti, who has won eight of his last nine matches, has 15 singles wins. Jack Williams has 12 singles wins this season.

The doubles team of Massalle Ferrer and Kamil Khalil have spent time this season in the ITA National rankings. They have posted a 13-1 record so far this year. The doubles team of Cisti and Edwards have an 8-3 record this season.

The Conference USA Championship is a single-elimination tournament where the first team to four points is declared the winner of each match.
