CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte 49ers women’s volleyball team will take part in the North Carolina spring tournament on Saturday marking their final tune-up before the regular season arrives in August. The Niners are coming off of the best weekend action of the spring taking two-of-three matches at the Yellow Jacket Spring Challenge last weekend in Atlanta.
Playing the best two out of three in each match, the Niners started with a three-set loss to host Georgia Tech before recording a pair of three-set victories to round out their day.
“This is a step in the right direction,” remarked Assistant Coach Nicole Miller. “But, there are still areas that need improvement. We will continue to work hard to improve in all aspects of the game.”
Charlotte knocked off Georgia Southern 2-1 before doing the same to the University of Tennessee in their finale. Georgia Southern was a NCAA tournament participate just a season ago.
“Serving was a key to our success over the weekend,” continued Miller. “I saw improvement throughout the day, especially with playing as a unit and competing for every point. It was a good weekend for Charlotte volleyball as the team was very excited to beat Georgia Southern and Tennessee.”
Charlotte will play four matches on Saturday at Chapel Hill starting with Duke at 10:00 a.m. As soon as the match with the Blue Devils is complete, the Niners will face Elon before a tournament-wide lunch break scheduled at noon. Charlotte will wrap up its afternoon facing N.C. State and UNC Wilmington starting at 2:00 p.m. All matches will be played inside Carmichael Arena with Charlotte competing on court two for all contests.
