IRVING, Tex. – Charlotte sophomore Thomas Rowland has been named the Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week after placing fourth with a career-best three-under-par 210 at the 2014 Irish Creek Collegiate.
Rowland posted a pair of rounds under par, setting two new career-bests to finish fourth overall out of 90 golfers at the 2014 Irish Creek Collegiate. The sophomore entered the final round with a share of the lead after recording a career-best three-under 68 in the opening round, backed by a two-under 69 in round two. Rowland concluded the 54-hole event three-under 210 (68-69-73=210), setting a new career record.
Aiding his 68 and 69 on Saturday was a combination of two eagles and six birdies as Rowland picked up his first top-five finish of the season. Rowland led the Niners to a tie for 3rd as a team. This is Rowland's first Conference USA Golfer of the Week award.
"I am very proud of Thomas for this well-deserved honor,” remarked Head Coach Ryan Cabbage. “He is an extremely hard worker and deserves all of his success. I’m really looking forward to the remainder of the season for Thomas and this team.”
Rowland and the Niners will play in their final regular season tournament this weekend before heading to the annual Conference USA Championships in two weeks. Charlotte heads to the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate this weekend hosted by Ohio State before traveling out to Edmond, Oklahoma for the C-USA tournament.
