|49er Softball Squares Off With UTSA in C-USA Tilt|
Charlotte, N.C.- Coming off a come from behind walk-off victory against North Carolina in a midweek affair, the Niners head to San Antonio, Texas to take on UTSA in a three-game Conference USA series. Charlotte is 13-15 overall and 4-7 in C-USA play on the young season.
UTSA comes into the first meeting between the RoadRunners and the Niners with a 17-19 overall record and a 5-4 mark in Conference USA.
Lexi Betancourt will look to get the ball in game one of the series looking to pick up her fourth straight win. Betancourt has posted a 3-1 record in the past five games for the Niners and coming off a career-high 10 punch outs in the win over North Carolina.
Betancourt has a 2.33 ERA on the season with a 12-8 record and 134 strikeouts. The red-shirt sophomore has a 4-4 record in conference play with a 2.98 ERA and 42 strikeouts.
Samantha Slade leads the way for the Niners at the plate with a .379 batting average. Slade’s bat has tallied 33 hits, six doubles, a triple, and seven home runs with 22 RBI. Slade is hitting .467 in the past five games.
Natalie Capone is nipping at the heels of Slade for the top spot hitting .364 with two doubles and two triples with 23 runs scored. Capone has been seeing the ball well hitting .438 with seven hits, a double and a triple in the past five games.
Jackie Kleinsmith has settled in with the number three average on the team hitting .352 on the season with 32 hits, six doubles and four dingers to go with 23 RBI. The junior catcher is hitting .375 in the past five games with a double, a home run and 5 RBI.
Jessica Plemmons has stayed consistent the past five games hitting .333 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored during that span. Plemmons has dropped her average to a modest .341 on the season with a team leading 26 RBI. The sophomore outfielder has four doubles, six home runs and 29 hits in her 85 at-bats.
Chelsea Lisikatos has come on strong upping her average to .317 on the season after hitting .333 in the past five games.
The RoadRunners dropped two of three against Southern Miss last weekend on the road in a three game conference series before picking up a road victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday.
Power hitting Megan Low leads the team in almost every statistical category. Low has a .387 average with 41 hits, 10 doubles, 15 home runs, 30 RBI and 24 runs scored. Low is posting a .906 slugging percentage and a .508 on base percentage.
UTSA will look to Nicole Merrill who has 14 starts with a 3.26 ERA and a 5-7 record. Kacy Freeze will get a chance in the circle appearing in 26 games with a 10-7 record. Merrill has pitched 86 innings with Freeze seeing the bulk of the innings with 111 innings. Chelsea Parker has 19 appearances and a 2-5 mark.
Kacy Freeze has pitched the majority of the conference slate picking up a 4-1 record with 36.2 innings pitched. Freeze is posting a 2.67 ERA during those games.
First pitch is slated for 2 pm (central time), 3 pm eastern followed by game two of the series.
