|StriKe Out Cancer Game Wednesday vs North Carolina|
Charlotte, N.C.- Since starting the StriKeOut Cancer initiative more than 10 years ago, the NFCA has raised thousands of dollars to support the fight against cancer. These vital resources allow the American Cancer Society to continue its lifesaving efforts to prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering from the disease through research, education, advocacy and service.
"The coaching staff and players are excited to participate and be a part of NFCA’s Strike Out Cancer game," said Head Coach Aimee DeVos. "It gives us a chance to openly show our support and raise money for an incredibly cause. We hope that our fans will join us and donate to the American Cancer Society."
Charlotte wraps up the home stand Wednesday as the Niners welcome the Tar Heels to town to participate in the StriKeOut Cancer game. Charlotte comes into the 58th all-time meeting with North Carolina with a 12-15 overall record, whereas the Tar Heels have an 18-15 record.
The Tar Heels have dominated the all-time series dating back to 1987 with a 50-7 mark. North Carolina took the last meeting on 2/27/13 in Chapel Hill 8-6. The last time the Tar Heels came to town, UNC was ranked No. 20 in the nation and went home with a loss falling to the Niners 10-6. It was the second defeat by the Niners as a ranked team. Charlotte defeated the then No. 15 squad 3-1 on 4/9/2008.
Donations for the StriKeOut Cancer initiative will be accepted during the game on behalf of the American Cancer Society. The ACS is the preferred charity of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Donations will also be accepted online by visiting Relayforlife.org and searching Charlotte49ers Softball.
The largest crowd recorded during the series was set on March 23, 2010, where the 49ers saw an attendence of 515. The 49ers Softball team would like to break that record as they support the StriKeOut Cancer initiative.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm under the lights at DL Phillips Complex. For more information on the StriKeout Cancer initiative visit StriKeOut Cancer.
