Charlotte, N.C.- After being swept by Conference USA leader Tulsa, the Niners look to rebound against Middle Tennessee in a C-USA three game series, March 29-30.
The Niners and Blue Raiders have been familiar foes the past two years playing twice over that span. Charlotte holds the advantage in the series 2-0 with the first meeting going the NIners way in 2012 winning at home 5-4. Charlotte took the last meeting, March 3, 2013, at the Auburn Invitational 8-6.
This will be the first meeting between these two teams as conference foes. The Niners are 10-15 overall with a 2-7 mark in conference play. Middle Tennessee comes into the series with a 7-26 mark after finishing the 2013 season going 7-47. The Blue Raiders have a 2-7 mark in conference play after picking up a conference win against Louisiana Tech in the series finale last weekend.
Samantha Slade (Apex, N.C./ Apex HS) continues to lead the Niner attack hitting .377 with six doubles, seven home runs and 21 RBI. Natalie Capone (St. Charles, Ill./ St. Charles North) is hitting .360 in the past ten games to boost her average to .354. The lefty slapper has a double and a triple to go along with her 29 hits.
Lexi Betancourt (Garner, N.C./ Garner HS) is looking for win number 10 on the season as she sits with a record of 9-8. Betancourt leads the team with a 2.51 ERA and 116 strikeouts. The redshirt sophomore needs nine more strikeouts to tie a season high.
First pitch at D.L. Phillips Complex is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, at 12 noon followed by the night cap. Weather may be an issue with high chances of rain in the forecast over the weekend.
