49ers Fall To UNCG On The Road

Greensboro, NC – The Charlotte 49ers (9-4) saw their four-match winning streak end with a 4-2 loss on the road at UNC Greensboro (10-5).

Charlotte won two doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At number two doubles, Charlotte’s Paul Cisti and Jack Williams defeated UNC Greensboro’s Ahmet Sarioglu and Daniel Mack, 8-5. At number three doubles, Charlotte’s Alex Calott and Nate Shanok defeated UNC Greensboro’s Nazhone Wilkins and Jimmy Roueche, 8-3. At number one doubles, Charlotte’s Kamil Khalil and Jordi Massalle Ferrer had their match stopped with UNC Greensboro’s James Dougherty and Randy Phillips since the 49ers had already clinched the doubles point. The match was tied at six games apiece when the match was halted.

UNC Greensboro won four singles matches to claim the overall victory. At number one singles, Charlotte’s Forrest Edwards lost to UNC Greensboro’s Sarioglu, 6-1, 6-4. At number two singles, Charlotte’s Khalil did not finish his match with UNC Greensboro’s Dougherty since UNCG had already clinched the overall victory. This match was tied at one set apiece, 7-5, 3-6, when the match was stopped. At number three singles, Charlotte’s Massalle Ferrer saw his nine match winning streak end with a 6-3, 7-5 loss to UNC Greensboro’s Phillips. At number four singles, Charlotte’s Williams saw his four-match winning streak end with a 7-5, 6-4 loss to UNC Greensboro’s Gaston Murray. At number five singles, Charlotte’s Calott saw his four-match winning streak end with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) loss to UNCG’s Mack. At number six singles, Charlotte’s Cisti won his fifth-straight match with a 6-0, 6-2 win over UNCG’s Cameron Smith.

Charlotte returns to action when they play East Carolina and College of Charleston this weekend in Charleston, South Carolina, March 29-30.
