|Men's Golf Holding 12th Place after Rounds 1 and 2|
GREENSBORO, Ga. – The Charlotte 49ers men’s golf team stands alone in 12th after day one that covered 36 holes of play at the Linger Longer Invitational co-hosted by Mercer and Kennesaw State. Three Niners finished the day at two-over par for the tournament each posting a 146. As a team, Charlotte posted a first round 285 before ending the day with a 301 on the 7,073-yard, par 72 layout of the Great Waters Golf Course.
Riley Davenport was one of those three 49ers ending the day at two-over for the tournament. Davenport opened with a two-under 70 in round one carding four birdies on his first trip around. Davenport would once again birdie 11 and add one more at 18 to stand at one-over coming up to the finish line of Saturday’s 36 holes. After birdies on two and three in round one, Davenport stumbled with back-to-back doubles before ending the day with a birdie on four.
Like Davenport, Thomas Rowland started with a round of 70 before recording a 76 in round two. Rowland would post six birdies, three on each side, on the first round before ending round two with a bogey on three of the final four holes after registering birdies twice on the back side.
Raoul Menard put together the most consistent 36 holes on Saturday with a colorful first round and an eagle in round two to put up a pair of 73’s. Menard recorded three birdies on each side in round one being as low as two-under before finishing at one-over. Three-over turning over to the front nine, Menard drained one of five eagles on the 507-yard, par-5 second. Menard concluded with a birdie on six before giving the shot back with a bogey on seven.
Franco Castro rounded out the four team scores for Charlotte with an even-par 72 in round one before wrapping up with a 76 (+4). Castro put up four birdies in the opening round, three on the front side, including the final one on three to conclude at even-par. Castro would again manage a birdie on the par four first, but registered five bogeys with the birdie sandwiched in between.
Joe Toland, competing as Charlotte’s fifth competitor, recorded a pair of five-over 77’s in his 36 holes on Saturday. Toland would post a birdie on the par-4 fifth in round one before adding three more birdies on one, two and 12 in round two.
Sunday’s final round of 18 holes has been changed to an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start with the Niners going off of the back nine, holes 10-13. Charlotte will be paired with South Alabama, Yale and North Florida during the final round foursomes.
