Baseball Cancels Contest with Liberty

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte 49ers baseball contest against Liberty on Wednesday has been cancelled due to weather. Wednesday marks the sixth time this season the Niners have had a game either postponed or cancelled due to weather in the Charlotte area.

Rain showers started late Tuesday night and continued into Wednesday morning leading to the cancellation. After a few hour window of no precipitation, the rain was expected to resume at 4:00 p.m. which was Wednesday’s start time. Along with the rain, was winds estimated to be between 20-25mph with gusts that could reach 45-50mph at times.

Charlotte will now head to Middle Tennessee over the weekend for their second Conference USA series of the year. Friday’s series-opener is set for 7:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. central) followed by 5:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  

The Niners will enter the weekend after a 5-4, walk-off win over VCU on Tuesday. Corbin Shive came up with a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to win it for Charlotte. Middle Tennessee heads to the weekend after a 2-0 shutout loss to #17 Tennessee.
