Charlotte 49ers junior guard Pierria Henry was named to the Conference USA All-Defensive team. He also earned third-team All-Conference USA honors. Voting was done by the C-USA head coaches and media members in each conference city.
This marked the second straight season that Henry has earned league All-Defensive team honors. Last season, he was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Defensive team.
Former 49ers standout Eddie Basden was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year twice (2004 & 2005).
Henry is among a handful of players in the nation and the only one in Conference USA that averages double-figure points (12.6 ppg) and at least five rebounds (5.2 rpg) and five assists (6.07 apg) per game. He is second in Conference USA and 22nd in the nation in steals per game (2.21 spg). He is 14th in the nation and second in Conference USA in assists per game (6.07 apg). This season, Henry has recorded 20 double-figure scoring games and five 20-point scoring games including scoring a season-high 26 points in the 49ers last game at Marshall (March 6).
For his career, Henry has scored 893 points, dished out 386 assists, which is the ninth highest total in school history and recorded 218 steals, which is the fourth highest total in school history.
Henry and the rest of the 49ers men’s basketball team plays UAB in the second-round of the Conference USA Tournament in El Paso, Texas, Wednesday, March 12 at 10:30 pm.
