CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte 49ers men’s golf team gets back to action on Monday and Tuesday participating in the 2014 Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn University at the 7,149-yard, par 72 Grand National Lake Course. The 15-team field will play a practice round on Sunday before engaging in 36 holes of continuous play on Monday. The tournament will wrap up with one final round on Tuesday morning.
The Niners are coming off of an eighth-place finish two weeks ago at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship in Houston, Texas. Franco Castro, Raoul Menard, Riley Davenport, Thomas Rowland and Seth Gandy will make up the five-man team for Charlotte. John Boehme also made the trip to Auburn to compete as an individual.
Castro led Charlotte with a T-15 finish overall putting together a three day total of 213 (72-71-70) concluding at three-under par. Castro leads the Niners with a 71.39 stroke average through 18 rounds in the 2013-2014 season.
Menard wrapped up the Houston event two shots behind Castro at one-under 215 (71-74-70) concluding at T-21. Menard also improved on his season average dropping it to 72.33 through his 15 rounds. Davenport put together a 218 (74-74-70) in Houston while Rowland competed two days later in the Irish Creek Intercollegiate taking home medalist honors.
Rowland bested the 96-man field topping John White in a playoff. Rowland put together a pair of rounds at 70-73 to take the crown. Gandy wrapped up team scoring in Houston with a 233 (76-77-80). Boehme, the fourth member in team play at the Bayou City event, carded a three-round total of 224 (77-73-74).
Three ranked teams will join the Niners at this week’s event including #28 and host Auburn. #38 Memphis and #42 Kennesaw State are the others. Charleston Southern, Drexel, Jacksonville State, Mississippi State, Samford, South Alabama, Temple, Troy, St. John’s, VCU and Western Carolina make up the full 15-team field.
