49ers Cruises Past The Citadel At Home

Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte (4-1) blanked The Citadel (2-9), 7-0, at home to remain undefeated at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex this season.

"Our doubles play continues to improve," Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. "We played with a lot of focus today and with very good energy. Jack Williams was especially tough in the final stages of his singles match."

The 49ers swept all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte’s Jack Williams and Alex Calott defeated The Citadel’s Elliott Sperr and Dillon Berkabile, 8-2. At number two doubles, Charlotte’s Kamil Khalil and Jordi Massalle Ferrer improved to 5-0 on the season with an 8-2 victory over The Citadel’s Peter Bleach and Oliver Dedding. At number three doubles, Charlotte’s Forrest Edwards and Paul Cisti defeated The Citadel’s Connor Grady and Marvin Pagayonan, 8-1.

The 49ers won all six singles matches. At number one singles, Charlotte’s Edwards defeated The Citadel’s Sperr, 6-0, 6-4, for his 16th win of the season. At number two singles, Charlotte’s Williams recorded his eighth win of the season with a 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 win over The Citadel’s Bleach. At number three singles, Charlotte’s Khalil defeated The Citadel’s Adam Howard, 6-4, 6-4, for his third straight win. At number four singles, Charlotte’s Massalle Ferrer won his 13th match of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over The Citadel’s Dedding. At number five singles, Charlotte’s Calott won his 13th match of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over The Citadel’s Joe Bove. At number six singles, Charlotte’s Cisti won his eighth match of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over The Citadel’s Grady.

Charlotte concludes their five-match home stand with a match against South Carolina State at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex, Sunday, February 23 at 1 pm.
