|Niners Wrap up Split Meets|
Winston-Salem, N.C.- The Charlotte 49ers continued day two of the JDL Hilton Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Alvonna Blakney continued to tear up the track in the 60m hurdles. Blakney finished third in the semis (8.64) and followed up that performance with a career best performance in the finals with a third place finish with a time of 8.57. Blakney moved up to third in program history on the all-time list.
Joann Blakney grabbed the top spot in the 60m dash semis with a time of 7.51. Blakney followed up the semis with a better performance grabbing the top spot in the finals as well with a 7.41 performance.
Anthony Bynum and LeRoy Rouse qualified for the finals in the 60m dash after taking fourth and eighth place respectively. Bynum had a 6.83 performance, while Rouse ran a 6.95. Both of them did not participate in the finals.
Chris Tate grabbed a second place finish in the men’s 200m with a 22.15 performance. Sarah Justice grabbed a third place finish in the women’s 200m with a 26.13 performance. Marissa Pinckney finished with a time of 26.57.
T’Sheila Mungo added her name to another list in program history running the 800m in the fourth fastest time. Mungo finished the 800m in sixth with a time of 2:12.21. Teammate Rachel Miller finished in eighth with a 2:17.68 800m.
Lauren Gulley improved her career best in the women’s high jump and moving up the all-time list moving in a tie for third place with a jump of 1.70m (5’7) and placing second in the event. Trey McRae improved his season best high jump performance with a second place finish and a leap of 2.10m (6’10.75) and a second place finish.
Nathan Jeffers and Mike Cross competed in the men’s heptathlon over the course of the weekend. Nathan Jeffers finished with a total of 4562 and a fourth place overall finish. Cross finished behind Jeffers in fifth with a total of 4399. Jeffers added his name to the all-time list in seventh overall in program history.
The Niners take next weekend off before heading back to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the JDL UCS Invitational.
