Charlotte set school records for points scored, touchdowns scored, rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, rushes of 50+ yards, longest rush and longest rushing TD, among others.
Charlotte had four touchdown runs of 50 or more yards – by four different players: Alan Barnwell, 70 yards; Matt Johnson, 68 yards; Damarrell Alexander, 51 yards; Kalif Phillips, 50 yards. A fifth player, Donjore Gainey had a 49-yard run to the MSU 11 on the final drive, which ended with QB Patrick O’Brien kneeling.
Charlotte had two one-play touchdown drives and two two-play touchdown drives. None of those four touchdown drives took longer than 00:32 and the four drives combined to total just 81 seconds. Charlotte had 17 touchdown drives, this season, that took 1:30 or less and six touchdown drives of just one play.
Kalif Phillips scored a record three touchdowns to give him 13 this season. He scored 8 touchdowns in the last four games and scored TDs in each of those games and six of the last seven games.
CJ Crawford caught a 33-yard touchdown pass to match Austin Duke with a team-high 6 receiving touchdowns.
49ers led 3-1 in turnovers (+2) vs. Morehead State and finished the season 5-1 in games in which they won the turnover battle.
LB Caleb Clayton-Molby had a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown – the 49ers second Pick Six this year (Mark Hogan Pick Six in inaugural game for 49ers historic first-ever touchdown) and the longest interception return in school history.
K Blake Brewer kicked a pair of field goal of 40+ yards (41, 40), a first for a 49ers kicker. Brewer finished the season hitting 42 of 43 PAT attempts.
Charlotte scored 28 points in the 2nd quarter – second only to the 29 they scored in the 4th quarter of the come-from-behind win over #24/#25 Gardner-Webb.
The 44-point victory is the 49ers second-largest of the season, one-point behind the 45-point win over Campbell (W, 52-7) in the inaugural game.
Justin Bridges-Thompson fielded a short kickoff in the closing 30 seconds of the first half and returned it 64 yards to set up a 49ers 12-yard TD with just :08 left in the half. The 64-yard return is the 49ers second longest of the year, behind Mikel Hunter’s 96-yard TD return vs. Chowan.
