The Charlotte 49ers started strong by winning the opening set, but could not sustain the momentum and fell 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 23-25) on the road at UAB Sunday in Conference USA action. The 49ers ended their 2013 season with a 12-17 overall record, finishing 2-12 in C-USA. The Blazers improved to 20-13 on the season, an even 7-7 in conference play.

The 49ers got 21 final kills from senior captain Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School), which moved her to 17th on the all-time career kills list at Charlotte, ending at 1,027 in four seasons in Niner Green. Videmsek also added 11 digs to collect her team-leading tenth double-double of the season. She added three assisted blocks to move into a tie for sixth with former teammate Kara Raker with 308 for her career.

Sophomore libero Michelle Hovey (Raleigh, N.C. / Lighthouse) added 30 digs, her fifth 30-dig performance of the season and the fourth time in the last six matches she has eclipsed that mark. She moved up to second in school history with 556 digs in a single season. She will finish as the league champion in digs-per-set average with 5.25, the second-best mark for a season in school history.

Charlotte did not trail in the opening set, but there were nine ties and two lead changes in the rest of the match.

The level of offensive prowess was exceptional, with both teams hitting over .300 as a team for attack percentage in the match, the only time that has happened this year for the 49ers. UAB rang up a .365 attack number, while the 49ers hit .318, the first time they hit over .300 in a league match this season. The Niners also had just 17 attack errors the low mark for a conference match in 2013.

Senior Taylor Cannon (Elizabeth City, N.C. / Camtech HS) added 14 kills and hit for a .462 mark in the contest. Freshman Claire Kreuz (Boerne, Texas / Samuel Champion HS) contributed 13 kills in the match.

Sophomore setter Britney Leigh Held (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield Central HS) had 52 assists in her last match of the season, leaping five spots to end her season with the 15th-most for a single season with 1,115 assists.

The 49ers scored 20 or more points in 79 of 101 eligible (non-fifth) sets this season, including 30 times when Charlotte did not win the set, illustrating how close the season was in 2013.
