Charlotte hosts Kentucky in C-USA semifinal action

Charlotte, N.C.-  As the field narrows in the 2013 Conference USA Championships.  The #6 seeded Charlotte 49ers look to take on the #7 seeded Kentucky Wildcats in the semifinals.

Charlotte defeated the Blazers of UAB on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory.  Kentucky upset the number two seeded Old Dominion Monarchs 1-0 in overtime to face the 49ers.

Charlotte and Kentucky faced each other on October 19 at Transamerica Field.  The Wildcats fell victim to a 1-0 loss.  The lone goal was due to a Wildcats defensive miscue that led to an own goal.  The 1-0 victory over Kentucky was the first Conference USA victory for the 49ers and started a string of six consecutive victories in a row for the 49ers.

Leading goal scorers for the 49ers, Kyle Parker and Giuseppe Gentile and the rest of the 49ers were held without a goal for the third time this season during the earlier meeting.  49ers net-minder Klay Davis recorded the shutout to continue his stellar senior campaign.

Charlotte has been dominant over this six match winning streak keeping teams at bay allowing only two goals.  The 49ers have netted 18 goals in the last six matches.

The 49ers defensive unit: Biko Bradnock-Brennan, Thomas Allen, Klay Davis, Nick Barnhorst, Luke Waechter, David Mayer and Anthony Perez have allowed less than one goal per game this season.  The 49ers midfield unit: Aidan Kirkbride, Tyler Gibson, Brandt Bronico, and Will Mayhew along with 49ers forwards: Kyle Parker, Giuseppe Gentile, Hans Honer and Monbo Bokar have helped the 49ers defensive unit shutout nine opponents this season.  Six of those shutouts have come during Conference USA play.

Charlotte hopes to continue that streak in front of Conference USA’s leading home fan base.  Niner Nation and the QCA Army helps Charlotte feature the number one attendance in the conference.

Top-seeded New Mexico will take on #5 seeded Tulsa in the first match at 5:00pm followed by Charlotte taking on Kentucky in the night cap at 7:30pm.

All-session tickets are available for $20.  Single session tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth (17-under).  Charlotte and other C-USA student’s admission are free with valid University ID.  For more ticket information, call the Charlotte 49ers Ticket Office at 704-687-4949.
