49ers Host C-USA Menís Soccer Tournament This Week

The Charlotte 49ers are hosting the Conference USA Men’s Soccer Tournament this week, November 13, 15, 17 at Transamerica Field. The sixth-seeded 49ers (9-5-3, C-USA: 4-3-2) play third-seed UAB (12-4-1, C-USA: 5-3-1), in the first round, Wednesday, November 13th at 8 pm.

The 49ers enter the Conference USA Tournament with five straight wins. During that stretch, the 49ers have outscored their opponents 16-1. The 49ers defense has recorded four shutouts over the last five games.

Joining Charlotte and UAB in the seven-team Conference USA Tournament is top-seed New Mexico (11-4-2, C-USA: 7-1-1) who have a first round bye.

Fourth-seed South Carolina (7-6-5, C-USA: 4-2-3) plays fifth-seed Tulsa (9-5-3, C-USA: 4-3-2) in the first game of the Conference USA Tournament, Wednesday, November 13 at 3:00 pm. The winner of this game will play New Mexico in the first semifinal game, Friday, November 15 at 5 pm.

Then, second-seed Old Dominion (10-4-1, C-USA: 7-2-0) plays seventh-seed Kentucky (6-9-3, C-USA: 3-4-2) in the second game of the tournament, Wednesday, November 13 at 5:30 pm. The winner of the Old Dominion/Kentucky game will play the winner of the Charlotte/UAB game in the second semifinal, Friday, November 17 at 7:30 pm.

The Conference USA Championship game will be Sunday, November 17 at 1:30 pm. The Championship game will be broadcast live nationally on the CBS Sports Network.

Admission to each day of the Tournament is $10 for adults and $5 for youth (17 and under). A three-day pass for the Tournament for an adult is $20. Admission is free for any student from a Conference USA Institution with a valid student ID.

Wednesday’s game with UAB will the 29th meeting between the two teams. The 49ers lead the all-time series 15-9-4. Earlier this season, Charlotte and UAB tied 0-0 in double-overtime in Birmingham, Alabama, September 13. Despite the two teams not being in the same conference before this year since 2004, this game will mark the sixth meeting between the two teams in the last four years. Charlotte and UAB have played each other in the last two NCAA Tournaments. The 49ers won both NCAA Tournament games including a 3-2 victory in the first round of last season’s NCAA Tournament at Transamerica Field, November 15, 2012. 1.
