Senior Taylor Cannon (Elizabeth City, N.C. / Camtech HS) hit for a .333 attack percentage and collected a team-high 11 kills, but the 49ers fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-10) Friday night to UTSA in Conference USA volleyball action. The 49ers slip to 10-15 on the season, 0-10 in league matches. The Roadrunners are 17-7 overall, 9-1 in league play.
It was the fourth time this season Cannon has led the team in kills, the second one in conference (Tulsa on Oct. 18).
The first set featured eight ties and six lead changes, with the set tied as late as 11 point each. The Niners hit for a .163 percentage in the first set, their high of the match.
The Niners did not lead after the first set, as the Roadrunners collected the match-high 17 kills from league kills leader McKenzie Adams. She also had a dozen digs for the only double-double of the evening.
Charlotte sophomore setter Britney Leigh Held (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield Central HS) had 25 assists, and classmate and libero Michelle Hovey (Raleigh, N.C. / Lighthouse) had the team-high of eight digs.
Charlotte will tangle with UTEP for the final Sunday home match of the season at 1 p.m.
