Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer senior midfielder Tyler Gibson was named to the first-team Capital One Academic All-District Three team. As a result of being named first-team academic all-district, Gibson will represent the district on a national ballot for Academic All-America honors. This marked the second straight year that Gibson has earned first-team Capital One Academic All-District honors.
This season, Gibson has scored two goals while starting all 15 of Charlotte’s games. Gibson has scored a goal in each of Charlotte’s last two games.
Last season, Gibson was named first-team NSCAA Scholar All-American. He also earned first-team Scholar All-South Region honors as well.
Gibson has played an integral role in helping the 49ers reach the 2011 College Cup Final, earn two NCAA Tournament bids and two Atlantic 10 regular-season titles
Gibson, who earned first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors for three straight years, was named first-team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region for the second straight year in 2012. Gibson has been a member of the Hermann Award watch list for the last two years.
Gibson, who has a 3.82 GPA in Marketing, has been a two-time A-10 All-Academic team selection as well as a two-time NSCAA Scholar All-South Region selection.
Gibson and the rest of the Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer team will play Conference USA foe Marshall in their final regular-season home game at Transamerica Field this Saturday, November 2 at 7 pm.
