|Regular season comes to a close Thursday night|
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte women’s soccer enters its final regular-season match Thursday with a Conference USA Championships ticket in its back pocket, but first the 49ers will travel to Norfolk, Va., to face Old Dominion.
The team’s berth in next week’s league tournament was locked up following Sunday’s home finale against Florida Atlantic. Charlotte is one of three teams in the East Division to secure a spot with a chance at the division crown depending on results on the final day.
The Niners bring a 9-6-2 overall and 4-3-2 league record into the match, trailing division leader FIU by a point and tying UAB for second place in the standings with 14 points.
Twelve different players have scored a goal this year, led by Amanda Jones’ seven. She also paces the squad with 17 points, 50 shots, 27 shots on goal and three game-winning goals.
Freshman Ari Reilley netted her first career goal in Friday’s triumph over Marshall, becoming the fourth rookie to net a score this season. Others include Kaitlin Walker, Rebecca Beatty and Perri Bonner. Bonner has tallied two goals, matching the output of senior Dakota Olson and sophomore Maddie Kiebel.
Kiebel is tops with five assists, with Jones and Brooke Mulloy next on the list with three apiece. Overall, Charlotte has 23 assists on its 24 goals for 71 team points.
Goalkeeper Alex Kubrick has been the primary netminder, collecting five shutouts and 48 saves to go along with her 0.97 goals-against average through the home finale Sunday. She has helped anchor the defense, which has posted a 1.06 cumulative GAA with eight total shutouts, including four against league opponents, among its nine victories.
Old Dominion is 1-12-3 overall and 1-6-2 in C-USA entering Thursday. The Monarchs’ lone victory was a 2-0 triumph over East Carolina Oct. 4. They have lost three-straight, including a 4-3 setback at Southern Miss Sunday.
Jessie Klamut is ODU’s leading scorer with four goals. Jackie Stroud paces the squad with a pair of assists.
Meredith Lenox has seen the greater share of minutes played in between the pipes, posting a 1.86 goals-against average with 54 saves and two shutouts this season.
